Pond Fountains
The look of a garden pond can be improved by putting up a pond fountain. Pond fountains can range from a simple fountain that splashes water in the air or it can be far more elaborate like a marble sculpture. A pond fountain creates a serene and pleasant atmosphere in any garden and also cuts out any unwanted noise and it helps to aerate the water which is necessary if one has fish also in the garden pond. A fountain can be built in an existing garden pond or one can decide to put up a fountain in any unused space in the garden or backyard. Pond fountains can either shoot water through a nozzle or through a spray head or it can be a combination of both. The water spray from a pond fountain can be like a waterfall, have different heights of sprays. There are a number of combinations that one can get for pond fountains. One can get floating pond fountains or fixed pond fountains. There are some fountains with timers for the pump or with pump speed control and timer and one can also get a pond fountain with lights.
Once one has decided on building a pond fountain it is not too difficult to find the type of fountain or fountains that one wants to build and ordering them. Most pond fountain suppliers supply pond fountains in kits. But before getting a pond fountain first determine the height that the fountain should spray to and the quality of the pond water. If the water is clear then one will need a water filter with the fountain however, if there are chances of the water being muddy or not clean then it is best to get a pump with a filter. There are chances that some water from the pond is going to be wasted and which bring up the question; how to make a pond fountain loose less water? Here again the power of the pond fountain pump has to be taken into account. If the pressure is too much and the spray from the fountain is too high the wind is going to blow some of the water out of the pond and this can become quite messy. If the water supply to the fountain is from a different source then from the pond this can cause a pond flood. The supply of water to the pump also should be in sync especially if there is a water tank that is feeding the pump. Make sure that the amount of water being fed to the fountain is neither too much nor too little. A rule of thumb is that the pond diameter should be twice the size of the height of the fountain spray. That is if a fountain is going to spray water 3 feet in the air the pond should have a diameter of at least 6 feet. Also the pond size for the fountain has to be big enough so that water loss is minimized. If the pond fountain is submerged in the water it should be enclosed in fountain liner so that there is no leakage from the fountain.
Make sure that the water supply to the pond fountain is clean and it is better to get fountain heads that can be removed and cleaned as there may be a salt or algae build up on the fountain head. But no matter how clean the water is the fountain is going to require maintenance.
Getting a bronze or marble pond fountain can add quite a theme to the garden or break the monotony of a big lawn, but they require maintenance and are only advised if one has the time to clean and maintain them else they can become quite dirty and ugly.
There are solar powered fountains also available which require no external power supply and these can be quite economical.
The design and types of pond fountain or fountains that are currently available are quite amazing and one should not have a problem in finding a pond fountain that will suit the garden or fish pond. The gentle noise from a pond fountain has a very soothing effect and adding a pond fountain really pays off.
