Pond Nets
If one has a pond one will require some sort of netting to keep the unwanted visitors from entering the pond and also during fall one does not want leaves falling into the pond. So no matter how well you have cordoned of the garden pond or the fish pond visitors like birds and cats and frogs do manage to find their way to the pool. The pet cat may stop by to try and grab a fish as may the passing heron. All pond nets are made of some form of plastic and nylon compound and come in rolls. So it is really like buying cloth as all one needs to know is the length and breadth of the pond and can buy the pond net of the required size to cover the pond. Since pond nets come as rolls they don’t have any anchoring mechanism and one has to figure out how to install the net. One can either anchor the net using stones or hooks or one can get a PVC pipe frame made and lay the net over it and anchor it or tie it to the frame. As it is a net so where one wants to put strings or anchors is going to require some extra cloth to be stitched on portions of the net and some loop holes made in it for the rope that will be used for the anchors. The number of loops required and the ropes required will depend on the size of the net and of local weather conditions. If one is in an area where the winds can be quite gusty and strong then one will need to use more anchoring for the net so that it does not get blown off.
A good idea is to use any strong cloth to make an edge and stitch it along the edges of the entire net. The four corners of a rectangular net are going to be definitely anchored so make four holes in the corners and pass the ropes through it and anchor it. Then on the longer sides mark the center of the edges and anchor them. Then if more anchoring is required again divide from the center to the edge in half and place the next set of anchors. Continue doing this till you think that there are enough anchors holding down the net. The anchors can be hooks that are placed in the ground or the ropes can be tied to boulders or rocks. In case of a strong wind place some rocks on the edges of the net. Make sure to buy a net that is bigger by at least two feet of the breadth of the pond and the same goes for the length. This gives a person that extra netting on which one can place rocks or slabs to hold down the net. The netting is mostly required to cover the pond at night.
Another way of covering the pond with a net is netting a pond with PVC pipe frame. For this one needs to know the length and breadth of the pool. Buy PVC pipes and pipe joiners and make a frame that will cover the pool. Make the frame and cover it with the net and tie the net to the frame. This is perhaps an easier way as all one needs to do is to move the frame with the net which should not be too heavy over the pond and weigh it down with some rocks. Using a PVC frame will also eliminate the possibility of anything crawling under the frame and getting to the pond.
Another way of netting is by buying a net basket and skimming it over the pool but this is only useful for catching fallen leaves and other floating debris on the pool.
